Noms

I think it's interesting with different names. I have now meat a significant amount of people here in la Seu, and two names that always come back when people introduce themselves are Montse and Urgell. I’m thinking they must be typical for this region. I like the idea that your name can give people an idea of where you’re from. I wonder if people from rest of Spain think of this region when they hear these names.

My name is not very special for Sweden. Kim is probably one of the least specific names out there, you can’t even tell if it’s a boy or a girl. It would be really cool to have a name that were special for Öland, but then again, that would probably be a very ugly name. But at least a name typical for Sweden, like Åsa or Signe or something. But then again, I do like my name as it is, so I don’t know. It was just a thought. 

Coll de Nargó

Today I visited a small village called Coll de Nargó. It had a lot of adorable houses and of course a wonderful view. I love these little mountain villages, I really do. Another thing that always strike me are the roads. You think to yourself that no, of course you can't drive here, the roads are to narrow, no car would fit in there. And just when you're thinking this, a car comes along and passes you easily and smoothly, as if it was the most natural thing in the world.  

I've also been to the Enterrament de la Sardina, which was yeasterday. I have to say that the idea of burrying fishes really appeal to me for some reason, I'm not sure why. But it was fun to see, very chulo. If I understood it correctly, the idea is that you burry the king of the carnival at the end of the carnival to really mark the end of it. And you also burry fishes (sardines) since you can't eat fish after this, only meat. Here are some pictures from that as well:

Kanelbullar

Today, I made "kanelbullar" (cinamon buns). I did it because I had too much coffee and was very energetic, but also because kanelbullar very much remind me of Sweden. And also because it's about the only thing I know how to bake. When I was at the store to buy ingridients, I realized that Spanish supermarcets make no sense whatsoever. Things are not where they're supposed to be. When you have to look for sugar for 10 minutes, you know something is wrong.

The reason I write about "kanelbullar" in this blog, is because I think kanelbullar is a big part of the Swedish culture. I really do. We even have a special day for kanelbullar in Sweden, it's called "kanelbullens dag". The general idea is that you eat kanelbullar on this day. I have to go now, but I'll write something more tomorrow. Buenas noches a todos!

My first tv performance...

I have made my first tv performance. Yes. They interviewed me for the local channel Pirineus TV. Before you get all excited (ok, maybe you won't, but still), the interview lasted for maybe 30 seconds. No big deal really, just a little bit about what I'm doing here and what my experience have been so far. Still, for me it felt like a big deal, being my first time and all. I had prepared what I wanted to say in my head, but of course none of it came out as I had planned. Still, I think it went pretty well. And like I said, not really a big deal.

That's all I have for now. I'm enjoying life here in la Seu, and I will post more soon. I know I' haven't posted much yet, but I will. Count on it.

An introduction

My name is Kim and I'm the new (and first) volunteer, who's going to be staying here in la Seu for six months. For the time being, i'm writng this in Enligsh, but soon I hope I will be able to write it in Spanish, or even better, Catalan!
